Immaculata Hands Marywood 2-0 Setback in Field Hockey

Scranton, PA - Immaculata University battled host Marywood University to a 0-0 tie for nearly 64 minutes Saturday afternoon before the Mighty Macs broke through with two goals in the final 6:04 of the contest to take home an important 2-0 win Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey action.  Immaculata improves to 4-7 overall and 2-2 in CSAC play while Marywood slips to 2-7 (2-2 CSAC).

Marywood's Jamie Bowman kept the game scoreless at the break by making five first half saves on seven Immaculata shots.  Mighty Mac netminder Natalie Slezak did not have to make a save on Marywood's lone attempt in the first stanza.

The score would remain tied 0-0 until the 64th minute of play when Mary Beth Plastek scored on an assist from Ashley O'Donnell to put Immaculata up 1-0.  Just 5:10 later, Katie Becker gave the Mighty Macs a much needed insurance goal.

Slezak made two saves on the day to earn the shutout while Bowman had a game-high nine stops.  Immaculata out-shot Marywood 13-6 on the day while Marywood had a slight 6-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Marywood returns to the field Monday when they will host King's College at 5:00 pm.  The two teams are completing a game that began on September 7 and was postponed due to lightning.  The teams will resume play with 32:48 remaining in the contest and the Monarchs holding a 2-0 lead.
