Carly Leitzel's 6-0, 6-1 win at two-singles helped Marywood earn a 5-4 win over local rival King's Tuesday Marywood Edges King's, 5-4 Women's Tennis - 10/11/2011 8:32:00 PM Box Score Scranton, PA - The host Marywood University women's tennis team built a 3-0 lead after doubles, then held off a King's College rally in singles as the Pacers walked away with a 5-4 non-conference victory Tuesday in Scranton. With the win, Marywood improved to 8-2 on the year while King's slipped to 2-3. The match began with doubles play as the Marywood teams of Megan Nastelli and Kara Hoff, Lindsay Burke and Beth Schneider, and Kristin Guba and Diana Young all posted identical 8-5 victories to give the Pacers a 3-0 lead. In singles play, however, King's would attempt to rally by taking four of the six bouts. Sara Lynn, Emily Biffen, Liza Demko, and Vanessa Wagner all posted straight set victories for the Lady Monarchs. Lynn won by a 6-1, 6-1 count at number-one singles, while Emily Biffen remained unbeaten in the fall with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph in the fourth slot. Liz Demko was a 6-3, 6-2 victory for King's while Vanessa Wagner tallied a 6-4, 6-1 triumph in the number five and six singles positions. However, Marywood held on when Carly Leitzel and Burke posted respective 6-0, 6-1 victories in the number two and three flights to seal the victory. Marywood returns to the courts Friday when they host Neumann University at 3:30 pm in a CSAC match.Print Friendly Version
