Scranton, PA - Marywood University downed visiting Neumann University 8-1 in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's tennis action to clinch the #2 seed in the upcoming CSAC playoffs.  The Pacers, winners of three straight, finish the regular season with a 10-2 overall mark and a 9-1 record in league play.  Marywood will play #3 Cabrini College Friday at the Northwood Racquet Club in Easton.

Marywood built a 3-0 lead over the Knights after winning matches at one and two doubles and taking a match by default at three-doubles.  The Pacers' top doubles team of Melissa Hudock and Carly Leitzel won by a score of 8-1 as did Marywood's two-doubles team of Kara Hoff and Megan Nastelli.

In singles play, Marywood again got a default win, this time at six-singles, and then won four of the five remaining matches to end the day.  After Neumann's Breanne Klar knocked off Hoff 6-1, 6-3 in the top singles flight, Marywood had little trouble the rest of the way.  Leitzel was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at two-singles for the Pacers while Marywood's Lindsay Burke, fresh off a CSAC Player of the Week nod, won 6-2, 6-0.  Nastelli and Hudock then finished the match with 6-0, 6-0 wins at four and five singles, respectively.

The winner of Friday's match will take on either top-seed Gwynedd-Mercy College or #4 Baptist Bible College.  Marywood beat Cabrini 5-4 on October 8.  Both Marywood and Cabrini lost to GMC 5-4 during the regular season.  The GMC-BBC match will kick off at 10am and will be followed by the Marywood-Cabrini bout.  In the CSAC and NCAA playoffs, matches will end once the decisive fifth point is earned by a team.
