Marywood Advances to Laurel Line Championship

Dallas, PA - Marywood University's James Lavan had a game-high 19 points while Brent Keyes and Matt Lepri added 11 apeice the Pacers advanced to the Laurel Line Championship game Saturday night with a 70-60 win over Arcadia University Friday evening at Misericordia's Anderson Center.  The Pacers, now 1-1 on the year, will face the host Cougars who beat Baptist Bible College in the other opening round game.  Arcadia fell to 0-1 with the loss.

After opening the season Wednesday with a tough loss to Division I Army, Marywood came out strong and connected on nearly 43% of their shots in the opening stanza, eventually building a 28-27 lead at the break.  The Pacers were 12 of 28 from the floor in the opening half (42.9%) but connected on just two of ten three-point attempts.

Marywood made just two more three's the rest of the way but turned the ball over just 13 times on the night.  On Wednesday, Marywood committed 29 turnovers against the Black Knights.  Marywood also grabbed 32 defensive rebounds, limiting Arcadia's second chance points. 

The Pacers limited Arcadia to 31.3% shooting in the first half, and despite much sharper shooting from the Scarlet Knights in the second  half (40%), Marywood allowed almost nothing from long range as Arcadia hit only 20% of their deep shots on the evening (3 of 15). 

Marywood also had a decisive advantage at the charity stripe in the win.  After going to the line just four times in the opening half, Marywood took 30 freebies in the second half, sinking 22 of them.  Arcadia, meanwhile, went to the line just 21 times all game long.

Lavan was five-for-seven from the floor and hit nine of 14 free throw attempts for his game-high 19.  Lepri had a team-high nine boards to go with his 11 points while Keyes was three of five from three-point land as part of his 11.  Arcadia also placed three players in double figures, led by Colin McCarthy's 14 point effort.
