Box Score

Scranton, PA – Morgann Haduck scored 15 points while Carly Leitzel grabbed 20 rebounds to lead Marywood University to a 68-45 victory over visiting Wilkes University in non-conference women's basketball action on Tuesday night.  The Pacers improve to 3-1 on the season with their third-straight victory while the Colonels record also sits at 3-1 following their first setback of the year.

The two teams traded the lead four times over the first four and a half minutes of the game before Maggie Presnal put Marywood up 7-6 with 15:33 to play in the first half.  Following a Wilkes' bucket at the 12:18 mark, the Pacers went on 15-3 run to lead 24-11 with 5:48 showing on the clock, and the Pacers used an 8-2 run in the final 1:16 to hold a 34-18 lead at the intermission.

Marywood shot 35.7 percent from the floor in the first half and were led by Marielle Thorsen's eight points in the opening half.  The Pacers forced Wilkes to turn the ball over 16 times in the first half while limiting the Colonels to 29.2 percent shooting in the period.

Wilkes narrowed their deficit to 16 points on a three-pointer by Megan Kazmerski 4:10 into the second half, but Marywood put the game out of reach by outscoring the Colonels 22-8 over the next seven and a half minutes to lead 62-30 with 8:27 to play.  The visitors went on a 15-0 run to draw to within 19 pints with just over three minutes to play, but that was as close as they could come down the stretch.

Haduck tied for a game-high with 15 points on four of eight shooting from the floor, a perfect five-for-five from the free throw line, and a pair of three pointers.  Thorsen finished the evening with 11 points as the Pacers hit on 37.7 percent of their shots for the night, 28.6 percent from beyond the arc, and 70.6 from the free throw line.  Leitzel's season-high 20 rebounds included 11 defensive boards and nine offensive rebounds as the Pacers held a 49-41 advantage on the glass and the sophomore fell a point shy of a double-double after ending the night with nine points while leading all players with four steals.

Defensively, Alysa Mayo blocked a season-high six shots while Allison Bruet swatted away three Wilkes shots.

Wilkes was led by Whitney Connolly's 15 points as the Colonels shot 29.6 percent from the floor and 52.2 percent from the charity stripe while the Pacers limited Wilkes to just one three-pointer.

Marywood opens conference play next Monday as they close out a four-game home stand against local rival Keystone College.  Tipoff between the Pacers and Giants is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena.
