Neumann Edges Marywood in Five in CSAC Semifinals

Aston, PA – Host Neumann University edged Marywood University three games to two in Thursday evening's Colonial States Athletic Conference volleyball semifinals.  The second-seeded Knights improve to 22-12 on the season and advance to Saturday conference championship match to be hosted by top-seed Cabrini College while the Pacers fall to 17-11 this fall and await word on a potential bid to the Eastern States Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament.
 
Neumann won Thursday's first game 25-19 before Marywood leveled the match with a 25-21 win in game two.  The Knights went back in front by claiming the third set 25-18, but Marywood forced a tiebreaker with a 25-15 victory in game four.  In the decisive fifth set, Neumann emerged victorious by a 15-12 margin.
 
Four Neumann players recorded double-digit kills led by Gianna Jones' 14.  Natalie George added 13 kills in the win while Katelin Kuklentz (12) and Katie Young (11) also finished in double-figures.  Cecily Scavicchio turned in a double-double with a match-best 50 assists to go along with 22 digs while Victoria Limmina added a match-high 27 digs in the victory.
 
Emily Fillman led Marywood's attack with a match-leading 19 kills while Ashley Zalewski finished with 14 kills and two service aces for the Pacers.  Alyssa Hartranft dished out a team-high 44 assists and added 20 digs to finish with a double-double.
 
Rachel Tollett tied Hartranft for the team-lead with 20 digs of her own and Fillman was the second Marywood player to record a double-double after finishing with 19 digs to go along with her 19 kills.
 
Marywood now will wait to find out if they will earn their first-ever ECAC Tournament berth, with brackets for the tournament expected to be released on Monday.
