Marywood improved to 2-1 in CSAC play with a 65-55 win over BBC Wednesday night

Clarks Summit, PA – Marywood University improved to 2-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference and evened their overall record at 3-3 on the year with a 65-55 win over host Baptist Bible College Wednesday evening in Clarks Summit. The Defenders fell to 0-7 overall with the loss and 0-2 in CSAC action. Marywood's Matt Lepri led three Pacers in double digits with 14 points on 7 of 10 shooting from the floor.

Marywood, who eventually hit 52% of their shots from the floor in the opening half, trailed the Defenders early. With BBC holding a 17-9 lead after nearly eight and a half minutes of play, Marywood went on a 7-0 run to get back to within one and extended that run to 20-2 on a three-pointer from Kirk Fallon as Marywood went up 29-19 with 5:11 to go in the frame. Marywood would go into the locker room with an eight point advantage, up 33-25.

Always tough at home, Baptist Bible chipped away at the Pacers' lead over the first three minutes of the second half to get to within one (34-33) before Marywood's James Lavan went on a 5-0 run of his own with a three-pointer and a layup to put Marywood up 39-33.

Marywood regained a double-digit lead on a three from Shane Kellaher with 10:29 remaining and after BBC cut it back to nine Kellaher nailed his second consecutive trey to give the Pacers a 55-43 lead. BBC would chip away at that lead again and got to within four (58-54) with under two and a half remaining in the game, but the Pacers hit five of six free throws down the stretch and limited BBC to just one point the rest of the way to seal the win.

Pierre Bakinde and Lavan each had 11 points to join Lepri with double-figure nights while BBC's Dan Dodd led all scorers with 17 points.

Marywood returns to action Saturday when they host Neumann University at 3:00 pm in the Insalaco Arena.
