Box Score

Scranton, PA - Brent Keyes had a game-high 24 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the floor, which included a perfect 4-for-4 mark from long-range, as Marywood University improved to 3-1 in CSAC action with a 71-54 win over visiting Neumann University Saturday afternoon at Marywood's Insalaco Arena.  The Pacers, now 4-3 on the year, also got double-digit performances from Pierre Bakinde (12), Matt Lepri (11) and Tyrone Baker (10) in the win.

Defense was the name of the game early on, as after Neumann had built a 7-4 lead four minutes in, both teams went on scoreless streak over the next four and a half minutes.  Keyes eventually snapped that skid with a layup, making it 7-6 in favor of the Knights with 11:43 left in the opening half.  With under ten minutes left, the score barely changed, with Marywood holding a 10-9 lead.  Tied at 15-15, Marywood closed the last four minutes of the first half on a 11-5 run to take a 26-20 lead into the break.

Keyes was 4-of-7 from the floor in the opening half and led all scorers with 11 points, thanks to perfect 3-for-3 shooting from three-point land.

Neumann (4-3, 1-2 CSAC) chipped away at the Pacers' lead over the first five minutes of the second half, finding themselves down just two (33-31) after a layup by Mark Blount.  Marywood woudl respond with a 8-0 run to give themselves a 10-point cushion, and from there only allowed the Knights to get back to within single digits once.

Marywood extended their lead to 17 (50-33) on a Bakinde layup with just over 10 left, and with three minutes remaining held their largest lead of the game, 22 points, on a Keyes layup that put the Pacers up 65-43.

Marywood's defensive effort was the key to the game as the Pacers limited Neumann to 26.9% shooting in the first half and 34.5% for the game.  The Pacers, meanwhile, connected on 46.4% of their shots for the game and went 13 of 16 from the charity stripe (81.3%).  Neumann only hit 47.4% of their freebies, connecting on just nine of 19 free throw attempts on the day.

Marywood returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Hackettstown, New Jersey to face CSAC foe Centenary College.  Tip-off is set for 8:00 pm.
