Allentown, PA – Allison Bruet scored a career-high 23 points to carry CSAC North Division-leading Marywood University to an 81-53 victory at Cedar Crest College in Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. The Pacers improve to 18-6 on the season and 12-3 in conference play with the win. The Pacers' 18 wins match last year's total and Marywood sits one victory shy of tying the school record set by the 1986-87 Pacers.
Marywood can clinch the second-seed in the upcoming CSAC playoffs and earn a first-round bye and the right to host a semifinal game with a win over Centenary College in Thursday evening's regular season finale.
Saturday's game started slow offensively for both teams, with Amber Wehry scoring the game's first basket just over six minutes into the game to start a 9-2 run by Cedar Crest that put them ahead by seven at the 12:39 mark. Marywood countered with a 12-2 run to hold a 14-11 lead with 9:30 to play in the half capped by a lay-in by Bruet. Lizzy Sunderhaus put the Falcons back in front with 7:50 to play by completing a play, but a jumper by the Pacers' Brittany Mang 11 seconds later put Marywood back in front for good as the Pacers stretched their advantage to 41-27 at halftime.
The Pacers outscored Cedar Crest 17-4 over the first four and a half minutes to build a commanding, 58-31 lead. Marywood would stretch their lead to as many as 32 points in the second half to cruise to their second-consecutive victory.
