Aston, PA – Marywood University made a strong showing on the road but the Pacers could not find an answer for two key Neumann players as the fourth seeded Knights advanced past fifth seed Marywood in Saturday's CSAC men's basketball quarterfinal with a 78-73 win. CSAC Rookie of the Year Mark Blount had 20 points for Neumann as did Marquise Boggs. Patrick O'Connor added 16 for the Knights, who will face top-seed Cabrini College Tuesday in one of two semifinals.

Marywood (13-13) built a 39-36 halftime lead thanks to strong shooting all around. Neumann scored the first five points of the game and built a 13-5 lead on a pair of Mark Blount free throws, but the Pacers responded a pair of layups from John Foreman around a three from Jacques Robinson. Another three, this time from Reinhard, kept Marywood within three (18-15) but the Knights would go up 23-17 on a Patrick O'Connor layup.

Timothy Mullen would then key a run for the Pacers by nailing a jumper and a three, and another three from Reinhard would give Marywood their first lead at 25-23 with 8:01 remaining. The Pacers would find themselves up 10 (36-26) on a Tyrek Coleman lay-in with just over four remaining in the half, but Neumann would close the half on a 10-3 run to make it a three-point game at the break.

Timothy Mullen led Marywood with 10 first half points on 4 of 5 shooting from the floor and was 2 for 3 from behind the arc. Tyler Reinhard added nine first half point after hitting 3 of 4 from downtown. As a team, the Pacers hit 55% of their opening half shots, going 16 of 29 from the floor. Marywood connected on 46% of their long range attempts, knocking down 7 of 15 threes.

Despite building an early lead, the host Knights struggled from the floor from much of the first half. Neumann went 0-6 from three-point land as the Marywood defense held the Knights to 34% shooting (11 of 32) overall. Fifteen first half fouls called against Marywood helped the hosts stay in the game as Neumann sank 14 of 18 from the charity stripe in the first half. Neumann only had four fouls called against them in the first half. Marquise Boggs led all scorers at the break with 13 first half points, seven of which came from the free throw line.

Tied five minutes into the second frame, both teams traded three's and Marywood would go up 52-51 on another Robinson three with 13 minutes left. After another Neumann basket, Lenny Martin would take a feed from Robinson and lay it in to put the Pacers back up one, but Neumann went on a quick 4-0 run to reclaim a 57-55 lead.

Following a Marywood timeout at the 10-minute mark, the Pacers answered with a jumper from Matt Lepri to force yet another tie. Down 60-59 after Rich Whitten hit one of two from the line for Neumann, Keyes drained another three and Marywood would go up 64-60 on an Anthony Samuels jumper with 7:20 left.

Boggs would score the next three points for Neumann on a free throw and lay-in to get the Knights back to within one, but a pair of free throws by John Foreman put Marywood back up three, 66-63, with just under 5:30 remaining. Boggs would then score his fifth consecutive point for the Knights and Neumann would reclaim a 67-66 lead after a missed free throw from Marywood and an O'Connor jumper.

After another Marywood timeout, Lenny Martin picked up his eighth point of the day with a jumper to put Marywood back up one with three to play, but Boggs would get his nineteenth and twentieth points of the night on a pair of free throws as the two teams traded leads once again. Robinson would then return the favor at the other end of the court, nailing a pair of freebies to put Marywood up one, but a Mark Blount lay-in put Neumann back up one, 71-70, with 2:00 remaining.

A missed three from Marywood gave the Knights another golden opportunity, and Blount made good as he connected on an old fashioned three point play to put the hosts up 74-70 with under a minute remaining. The hosts would extend that lead to 76-70 after some more free throws before Anthony Samuels drained a three for Marywood with six seconds left, but forced to foul the Knights iced the game on the line.

Mullen's 13 points was a team-best for the Pacers while Foreman added 10. Marywood now awaits a possible berth into the ECAC South Region tournament with a 13-13 record while Neumann improves to 16-10.
