Marywood Moves Closer to Playoff Berth With Win at PBU

Langhorne, PA – Marywood University's women's basketball team moved closer to securing their third-straight berth in the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs with a 64-35 victory at Philadelphia Biblical University on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Pacers complete a season-sweep of the Crimson Eagles and improve to 16-5 on the season and 10-2 in conference play.

Marywood built a comfortable, 27-14 halftime lead after shooting 37.9 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of play while limiting Philadelphia Biblical to 25 percent shooting in the opening frame.  The Pacers would cruise to their 10th win in there last 11 games after hitting 40 percent from the field in the second half and connecting on all seven of their free throw attempts. 

The Pacers dominated the inside game, outscoring the Crimson Eagles 26-4 in the paint for the game and holding a 36-22 advantage in rebounds.  Marywood's bench contributed 26 points compared to just 2 from the host's reserves.

Marywood was led by a trio of players with 14-point-performances. Freshman Carly Leitzel netted14 points and added six rebounds and four steals. Junior Allison Bruet finished the afternoon with 14 points and four steals while classmate Marielle Thorsen contributed a 14-point, six rebound effort.  The Pacers shot 39.1 percent from the floor for the game, 25 percent from three-point range, and 76.9 from the free throw line.

Philadelphia Biblical, who falls to 2-18 on the season (1-10 CSAC) was led by Haley Weber's game-high 18 points.  Hannah McCardle added 10 points and a game-high nine boards in the loss. 

Marywood returns to action on Monday evening when they host local conference rival Baptist Bible College in a game scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena. A donation net will be setup at the entrance to the arena to collect donations as part of the “Nets for Nets” program to raise money to provide malaria nets for children in Africa.
