Marywood Evens Record with Win Over Lycoming

Scranton, PA – In a battle of 2010 NCAA tournament qualifiers, Marywood University took early 2-1 lead after doubles play and won five of six singles matches to even their record at 3-3 on the year as the Pacers downed visiting Lycoming College 7-2 in non-conference men's tennis action Sunday afternoon in Scranton. Ethan Jones clinched the match for the Pacers with a solid 6-3, 6-4 victory at four-singles play.

Greg Chilson and Todd Doran gave Marywood an early 1-0 lead with an 8-3 win at one-doubles over Lycoming's David Brown and Robert Brown, but the Warriors (2-2) rebounded with an 8-4 win at two-doubles from the duo of Jason Mifsud and Phillip Shannon, who beat Marywood's team of Wyatt Nolan and Daniel Pfafman. The Pacers then responded with a sound 8-5 win at three doubles by Jones and partner Ryan Mulqueen as the duo defeated Cody Heffner and Jordan Dubinsky.

Chilson then opened singles play with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Mifsud in the top flight while the Pacers' Todd Doran downed Robert Brown 6-2, 6-0 at two-singles. Up 4-1, Jones picked up the winning point at four-singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Phillip Shannon. Pfafman and Nolan also picked up singles wins for Marywood at three and six singles play, respectively. Lycoming got their second point of the match with a win from Heffner at five-singles as he beat Ryan Mulqueen 7-5, 6-3.

Marywood returns to action on March 25 with a home match against Lebanon Valley College. First serve is set for 3:00 pm.
