Scranton, PA – Alex Magid picked up his first win of the season while Joe Diskin and Mike Pinelli each drove in three runs to lead Marywood University to a 10-2 victory over visiting Baptist Bible College in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday afternoon.  The Pacers, who used a five-run fourth inning to build an 8-0 lead, improves to 10-6 on the season while the Defenders fall to 2-10 this spring.

Marywood took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning.  Nicholas Pasqualichio tripled to left field and scored one batter later when Jared Yanniello reached on Baptist Bible throwing error.  The Pacers stretched their lead to 3-0 after two when Yanniello picked up a bunt single that brought home Brandon Decker, who led off the inning with a single.  Pinnelli would then score on a Diskin base hit.

Marywood broke the game open in the home half of the fourth, with Shane Miller leading off the frame with a walk, followed by Decker's double down the left field line that put runners on second and third.  After Eric Tomkins was hit by a pitch, Pinelli laced a double to left center that brought home two runs.  Tomkins would score on a wild pitch and Joseph Valvano drew a walk before Diskin hit double just inside the third base line that plated both Pinelli and Valvano to give Marywood an 8-0 advantage.

The Pacers stretched their lead to 10-0 in the seventh inning as pinch runner Dan Capwell and Tompkins both scored on errors by the Defenders.

Magid was outstanding on the mound for Marywood and was an out away from recording a two-hit shutout before Baptist Bible was able to put together some quality at-bats against the senior.  Ryan Miller hit a two-out single to center for the Defenders and scored Baptist Bible's first run of the game on a double by Shawn LaCount.  Chris Landry followed with an RBI single to score LaCount, before Magid forced a groundout to end the game and pick up his first game of the season, scattering five hits and striking out five in the complete game victory.

Diskin was 3-5 at the plate with 3 RBI's to lead Marywood while Pinelli went 2-3 with 3 RBI's and to runs scored.  Pasqualichio and Decker each added two hits for the Pacers.

LaCount was 2-4 at the plate to lead Baptist Bible.  Kevin Umbach took the loss after going 6.2 innings on the mound for the Defenders, striking out two while allowing 11 hits.

Marywood is scheduled to visit Philadelphia Biblical University for a Colonial States Athletic Conference single, nine-inning game on Friday.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Langhorne, PA.
