Fort Pierce, FL - Nicholas Pasqualichio went 3-for-3 with four RBI and Tim Freda improved to 2-0 on the mound with a complete-game, six strikeout performance as Marywood beat Northwestern College (Minnesota) 8-1 in the opening game of a doubleheader Friday afternoon.  The Pacers would fall 5-4 in the nightcap and now stand at 5-2 on the year.  Northwestern was playing their first two games of the season and is now 1-1.

Freda went the distance on the mound for Marywood in the opener, striking out seven and allowing just four hits to improve to 2-0 on the year.  Pasqualichio was 3-for-3 with four RBI at the plate to lead the Pacers offensively while Joe Diskin was 3-for-4 with and RBI.  Northwestern managed just one run in the sixth inning. 

Marywood did most of their damage in their half of the fourth, scoring four runs to break open the game.  After Eric Tomkins reached on an error, Mike Pinelli sacraficed Tomkins to second to give Marywood a runner in scoring position.  Joseph Valvano would then walk and a Diskin single would score Tomkins from second.  Valvano and Diskin would then cross the plate when Pasqualichio knocked them in with a double.  Pasqualichio would move to third on a routine groundout before Thomas Czerw brought him home with a RBI single.

Northwestern got the better of Marywood in a tightly played nightcap, scoring two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take home the 5-4 win.  Marywood scored a run in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but Northwestern answered each time.

Jason Aikens (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Marywood after an eight-hit complete game performance.  Marywood managed just five hits in the nightcap as Pasqualichio went 1-for-3 with two RBI.  Tomkins had a double with two RBI while Brandon Decker also collected a double.

Marywood plays Martin Luther College (Minnesota) Saturday morning at 9:00 am in the last game of their annual spring break trip to Florida.
