Softball Moves to 12-4 in CSAC with Sweep of Notre Dame

Scranton, PA - Marywood University improved to 12-4 in Colonial States Athletic Conference softball action with a pair of five-inning wins over the College of Notre Dame (MD) Saturday afternoon in Scranton.  Marywood (16-10 overall) beat the Gators 10-1 in the opener while Kaitlyn Jones threw a complete-game one-hitter for Marywood as part of a 12-0 win.

After Notre Dame (4-13, 1-10 CSAC) opened the scoring in the opener in the top of the first when Kirsten Smulovitz scored, Marywood tied the game in the bottom half of the inning then exploded for nine runs over the next two to take a commanding, 10-1 lead.  With Alexandra Stine (3-1) on the mound, Marywood cruised to the win from there as the freshman hurler struck out eight Gators while only allowing four hits on the day.

One and two hitters Kim Lope and Meghin Palmer each went 3-for-3 in the opener with Palmer picking up a team-high three RBIs and Lope belting two triples.  Shawna Sandy was 2-for-3 with a double while Kaitlyn Brennan was 1-for-3 with a double and and RBI.

Palmer again led the Pacers in the nightcap, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored  as Marywood got out to a 7-0 lead after one and added five more in the second.  Jones pitched a complete game one-hit performance while striking out five.  Brennan was 2-for-2 in the nighcap with a three-run homer and four RBI total.

Marywood will host Immaculata University Monday afternoon at 3:00 pm in CSAC action.
