Marywood, Immaculata Split in CSAC Softball Action

Scranton, PA - Marywood University's Alexandra Stine led the Pacers to an 8-1 win in the opening game of a Colonial States Athletic Conference softball doubleheader but visiting Immaculata used a four-run first inning to defeat the Pacers 4-3 in the nightcap as Marywood and the Mighty Macs split two games Monday afternoon in Scranton.  Marywood moves to 17-11 overall and 13-5 in CSAC action while Immaculata stands at 12-8, 9-3 CSAC after the split.

In the opener, Stine (4-1) threw a complete-game six-hitter, limiting the Mighty Macs to just one run in the fifth which came on an RBI single from Holly Schell.  Immaculata's Julia Lamplugh belted two doubles and scored one run, but both her doubles came without RBIs.

Marywood opened the scoring in the third with one run and added a six-run fourth to go up 7-0.  Kaitlyn Brennan was 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI while Meghin Palmer was 2-for-4.  Chelsea Zimmerman was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI while Miranda Sorber had a double and two RBI as well.

In the nightcap, Immaculata would get all the runs they would need in the top half of the first, scoring four times and holding on for a 4-3 win.  Danielle Palmisano (5-3) was solid for the visitors, allwoing just five hits and one earned run to get the win.  Palmisano helped her own cause as well with an RBI double.

Kaitlyn Brennan took the loss for the Pacers, falling to 4-4 on the year.  Brennan struck out two and allowed three earned runs in a complete-game effort.  Ashley Dommes was 2-for-3 for Marywood with an RBI while Jillian Flanagan added the Pacers' other RBI.

Marywood returns to action Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader at nearby Misercordia.  Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
