Marywood Sweeps Cedar Crest in Softball Action

Scranton, PA - Marywood University's Miranda Sorber went 2-for-3 with three RBI in the opener and Kaitlyn Jones allowed just two hits as the Pacers beat visiting Cedar Crest College 10-0 in the opening game of a CSAC doubleheader Friday afternoon.  Alexandra Stine and Ashley Dommes each homered in the nightcap as Marywood completed the sweep of the Falcons with a 7-3 win in the nightcap.  The Pacers now stand at 19-11 and 15-5 in CSAC play and host league leading Neumann University tomorrow in the conference regular season finale.

Jones (8-3) struck out three and allowed just two hits in the opener as Marywood cruised to a 10-0 win in five innings.  The Pacers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning and tacked on one in the second and two in each the third and fourth to secure the win.  Sorber was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a triple.  Kim Lope finished the opener 1-for-3 with a triple, RBI and two runs scored, while Kaitlyn Brennan, Melissa Brodt and Kaitlyn Jones also added RBIs.

Shannon Wenner took the loss for the Falcons after allowing six earned runs on 10 Marywood hits.  Danielle Freeman and Lauren Saige were each 1-for-2 for the visitors.

Marywood again used a big first inning in the nightcap, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after one.  Marywood increased their lead to 5-0 in the third before Cedar Crest (10-20, 9-11 CSAC) answered with a three-run fourth.  The Pacers, however, responded with two more in the fourth.

Kaitlyn Brennan (5-4) earned the win for Marywood after allowing three runs on eight hits over seven innings. Brennan struck out four on the afternoon.  Lope and Meghan Palmer each went 2-for-4 in the nightcap while Stine and Dommes each homered.

Marywood hosts Neumann tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm in both team's CSAC regular season finale.
