Scranton, PA – Ryan Pelle scattered six hits across and struck out four and Marywood University scored three first-inning runs on their way to a 5-1 win in the nightcap of Saturday afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference doubleheader to end their season with a victory after dropping the opener to Gwynedd-Mercy College. The Griffins, who got a one-hitter from Andrew Sinon in a 6-0 win in the first game, will take a 12-14-1 overall record (9-6 CSAC) into the conference playoffs while the Pacers end the season with a 14-17 mark including a 7-11 record in the CSAC.

Gwynedd-Mercy jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of Saturday's opener by scoring three unearned runs to capitalize on a pair of errors by the Pacers. The Griffins added a run in the second inning and two more in the fifth which was more than enough for Sinon, who did not allow a hit until the seventh inning when Nick Pasqualichio laced a single to right center.

After a fielder's choice, Shane Miller ripped a shot to deep right, only to be robbed of a home run by Griffins' right fielder Austin Ley, who made a spectacular catch while tumbling over the fence to preserve the shutout for the visitors, who got five strikeouts from Sinon, who allowed just three base runners in the game.   Tim Freda went the distance on the hill for Marywood and struck out five while walking one.

Saturday's nightcap was a reversal of the first game, with Marywood taking advantage of mistakes by the Griffins and getting a solid pitching effort from Pelle. The Pacers built a 3-0 first inning lead as Joe Diskin led off the frame with a walk and later scored on an error. Pasqualichio, who walked after Diskin, would come around to score on a passed ball and Jared Yanniello, who reached on an error, crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

With two outs in the second inning, Yanniello doubled down the left field line and scored on a TJ Czerw base hit. The Pacers' plated their fifth run of the game in the fourth inning as Pasqualichio reached on an error, then came around to score on the Griffin's third error of the game.

That was more than enough offense for Pelle, who allowed his lone run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Pasqualichio and Yanniello both scored twice in the win with Czerw, Yanniello, and Justin Magistro collecting Marywood's three hits in the win. Pelle allowed six hits, struck out four, and walked one while earning his sixth win of the season in a complete game.

The game was the final contest for Marywood's seven seniors: Joseph Valvano, Alex Magid, Jared Yanniello, Brandon Decker, Thomas Czerw, Joe Diskin, and Justin Magistro.
