Radnor, PA – Marywood University's Taylor McKeown scored the 200th goal of her collegiate career, but two-time defending Colonial States Athletic Conference champion Cabrini College edged the Pacers 15-14 on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers improve to 3-7 on the season and 3-1 in conference play with the win. Marywood, who had their program-record winning streak snapped at seven, falls to 8-3 on the spring and 3-1 in the CSAC.
Cabrini took the lead early on a goal by Courtney Davis just under two minutes into Saturday's contest before Kathy DiGiacomo equalized off a Meg Barbarino assist. Kimberly Commisso put Marywood ahead by scoring after taking a pass from Diana D'Achille at the 24:09 mark, but the Cavaliers would score the next four goals to hold a 5-2 lead with 18:52 remaining in the opening half. Commisso converted a free-position opportunity to get one back for the visitors, but Cabrini's Gabrielle Gorbey restored the host's three-goal advantage with a free-position goal of her own.
The Pacers outscored Cabrini 6-2 to close the half and hold a 9-8 lead at the intermission. McKeown and D'Achille both netted two goals apiece during the run while DiGiacomo and Sarah Caughy also found net during the run.
McKeown extended Marywood's lead to 10-8 with her third goal of the game and 200th of her career which 43 seconds into the second half, with Commisso setting up the junior milestone tally. The Pacers then stretched their advantage to 13-8 on a pair of Caughy markers and Commisso's third-goal of the game, but Cabrini got the game's next three goals to cut their deficit to 13-11 with 19:39 to play.
McKeown converted a free-position shot at the 14:02 mark to give the Pacers a 14-11 lead, but Cabrini scored the final four goals of the game, with Jacky McDermott netting the eventual game-winner with 5:20 to play.
Cabrini, who got a game-high seven goals from Jamie O'Hanlon, held a 42-30 advantage in shots for the game and a 29-19 edge in groundballs. Janel Folkomer made 12 saves in the Cavaliers' cage to earn the victory.
Commisso finished with a team-high five points on three goals and two assist while McKeown (4 goals) and DiGiacomo (2 goals, 2 assists) both contributed four-point performances. Caughy (3 goals) and D'Achille (2 goals, 1 assist) both added three-point games for Marywood. Megan Planz made 14 saves in the loss for the Pacers, who claimed a 17-14 advantage in draw controls on the afternoon.
Marywood will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday evening when they host CSAC opponent Neumann University in a game scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Scranton.
