Edwardsville, PA – Marywood University scored six runs over three innings and collected a 6-1 win in the opening game against Wilkes University before the Colonels used a game-winning hit from Amanda Holston in the nightcap to win 3-2, forcing a split between the two teams as Marywood closed out regular season action Sunday afternoon. The Pacers are now 20-15 and await the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoffs Wednesday while Wilkes closes their season with a 7-25 mark.

In game number one Wilkes started off down the right path, scoring in the bottom of the first inning to give the Lady Colonels an early lead. Marywood took advantage of a crucial error in the fourth inning to score three runs and take the lead.

In the fifth and sixth innings the Pacers would tack on three more runs, once against taking advantage of two Wilkes errors to produce runs. In the bottom of the seventh Marywood returned the favor by committing two errors of their own, but Wilkes could only produce a single run, ultimately falling 6-2.

Jaclyn Parsons got the win on the mound after surrendering two runs on six hits over a complete-game while striking out three. Alexandra Stine went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Pacers with three RBI. Miranda Sorber was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and Kaitlyn Brennan was 2-for-4 for the Pacers.

Game number two was a different story for Wilkes, as they Lady Colonels did not commit an error in the contest and relied on timely hitting to grab the victory. In the third inning Marywood manufactured two runs on two hits, taking an early lead. It didn't last long though, for in the bottom of the frame Wilkes answered in the form of a deep homerun over the left-center field fence by Alysha Bixler, tying the game at two

Bixler also had the start, and over the next held Marywood to one hit. Meanwhile, in the bottom of the sixth Bixler got on base via a walk, and stole second to get in scoring position with one out. With two outs Holston approached the plate and singled to left field, scoring Bixler and giving Wilkes the lead.

In the top of the seventh the Pacers started things off with a lead-off double, but Bixler was able to shut down the rest of the Marywood batters, grabbing the 3-2 victory.

Brenna was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI for Marywood while Kaitlyn Jones took the loss on the mound despite allowing just five hits.

Marywood closes their regular season with 20 wins for the 4th time in the last six years. The Pacers will be the #5 seed in the upcoming CSAC playoffs and will take on 4th seeded Baptist Bible College Wednesday in Clarks Summit at a time to be determined. Marywood and the Defenders both finished with 15-7 conference marks and split regular season action, but a BBC win over second seeded Centenary College give the Defenders the fourth seed and home field advantage over Marywood.
