Reading, PA - Alvernia University scored two unearned runs in the first inning and kept Marywood University at bay the rest of the way as the host Crusaders beat the Pacers 5-0 in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) playoffs Wednesday afternoon in Reading.  The Crusaders (22-11) advance to the is weekend's "Final Four" and will host the event after top seed Neumann University  fell to #8 Misericordia 4-2 Wednesday.  Marywood closes their 2011 campaign at 22-17.

Michelle Jensen was brilliant on the mound for the hosts, scattering three hits over six innings of work while striking out seven on the afternoon.  Kaitlyn Jones (7-4) took the loss for the Pacers after allowing just two earned runs on eight hits.

After Kim Lope singled to start the game for the Pacers, the Crusaders settled down and eventually caught Lope attempting to steal second.  Then, in the home half of the first, a throwing error allowed the game's first run to score and a second run would score on a Danielle Kitchen single.  The two teams would battle close over the next two innings before the Crusaders added two more runs in the fourth to break the game open.

Lope and Miranda Sorber each finished the game 1-for-2 while Chelsea Zimmerman picked up Marywood's other hit.
