Drifton, PA – Marywood University held a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh but could not close the doors on #2 Centenary College and the Cyclones then beat the Pacers 4-3 in 8 innings in Friday afternoon's CSAC softball tournament game. Centenary, who is now 2-0 in the tournament will now enter Saturday's Championship finals and will have two chances to win the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. Marywood (1-1 in tournament play) will face #1 Neumann University at 10:00 am in an elimination game.

Down 1-0 after one inning of play, Ashley Dommes, who hit a homer against Neumann earlier in the day, blasted another two-run shot, this time down the left field line, to give Marywood at 2-1 lead. The Pacers expanded on that lead in the fifth when Kim Flanagan doubled to start the inning and after one out, Kim Lope doubled Flanagan home to extend the Pacers' lead to 3-1.

Centenary (28-10) would get one back in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly to center with the bases loaded, but Marywood pitcher Jaclyn Parsons got out of the inning without further damage by getting a routine groundout to end the frame.

After a scoreless sixth and with Marywood holding a one-run lead in the last half of the seventh, Cara Montferrat doubled down the right field line with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give the Cyclones life. Montferrat would then score after a routine grounder got the batter out at first but a throwing error back to third allowed her to cross the plate, tying the game at 3-3 and forcing extra innings.

With Marywood kept off the board in the top of the eighth, a walk allowed the first runner on base for the Cyclones in the bottom of the inning. An infield single and another throwing error then allowed runners to move into second and third with only one out. Marywood opted not to intentionally walk the next batter, and leadoff hitter Caitlin Veverka made the Pacers pay with a game-winning RBI single to center.

Parsons took the loss on the mound after going 7.1 innings and allowing four runs on 10 hits. Parsons struck out three on the afternoon. Dommes was 2-for-4 at the plate with the two-run homer but was the lone Pacer with multiple hits on the afternoon.

Vasta finished the afternoon 2-for-4 for Centenary while Montferrat was 2-for-3. Meagan Madison got the win after 2.1 innings of relief work for the Cyclones.

The Pacers (22-15) beat Neumann 5-3 earlier today but will need to repeat that feat tomorrow morning. The Pacers would then need to beat Centenary College twice in a row as the tournament is double-elimination.
