Neumann Eliminates Pacers at CSAC Softball Championships

Drifton, PA - Neumann University avenged a 5-3 defeat to Marywood Wednesday by eliminating the Pacers from the CSAC softball championships by a score of 10-0 in six innings Saturday morning.  The Knights, who improved to 29-12 with the win, will now have to beat Centenary College twice to capture the CSAC title.  Marywood (22-16) will await a possible berth into the ECAC South Region tournament.  The tournament field will be announced Monday afternoon.

Neumann jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second and extended their lead to 3-0 in the third.  After a scoreless fourth, the Knights put the game out of reach with a four-run fifth and ended the game early with a three-run sixth. 

Kim Kirkpatrick hit a three-run homer for the Knights while Lauren Strack and Nicole Spena each doubled.  Despite equalling Neumann's six hits on the day, Marywood committed five fielding errors to the Knights' one. 

Meghin Palmer was 2-for-3 at the plate for Marywood as waas Chelsea ZimmermanAlexandra Stine, who got the win against the Knights on Friday, took the loss after going 4.2 innings and allowing four earned runs on three hits.  Kaitlyn Brennan pitched the final third of the sixth, allowing three runs on three hits.

Should the Pacers be selected for the ECAC tournament, the first round game will be on Wednesday, May 11 at a site and time to be determined.
