Softball Selected to ECACs, Plays at Alvernia Wednesday

Centerville, MA - Marywood University has been selected as the #7 seed in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Softball tournament in announcement made Monday.  The Pacers (22-16) will travel to Reading Wednesday to face Alvernia University, who was selected as the #2 seed in the region after finishing with a 21-11 record.  Game time is set for 4:00 pm. 

Marywood was the #5 seed in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoffs and advanced to the Championship Finals tournament after defeating #4 Baptist Bible College last Wednesday.  On Friday, the Pacers upset top-seed Neumann University 5-3 before falling to eventual Champion Centenary College 4-3 later in the afternoon.  The Pacers were eliminated from the double-elimination tournament early Saturday morning where they lost to Neumann.

The Pacers are led by All-CSAC First Team selections Meghin Palmer and Kim Lope, who have both started and played in all 38 games for Marywood this season.  Palmer leads the team with a .464 batting average and has 64 hits, 33 runs scored and 24 RBI.  She is also 23 of 27 in stolen base attempts.  Lope, meanwhile, is second on the team in hitting with a .396 average.  Lope leads the Pacers with 8 triples and has 9 doubles and three homers as well.  Lope has swept 37 of 39 bases on the year and is currnely ranked second in the country with her 8 triples. 

CSAC Runners-up Neumann University earned the #1 seed in the South Region tournamenet and will host #8 Misericordia University.  DeSales University has been selected as the #3 seed and will host #6 Penn State Altoona.  The #4 vs #5 game features Stevenson University and Wilson College, respectively.  All first round games will be hosted by the higher seed at a time to be determined.  The highest remaining seed will then host a double-elimination tournament Saturday May 14 and Sunday May 15 to determine the ECAC South Region Championship.
