Scranton, PA - The University of Scranton scored once midway through the first half and added two second half goals as the Royals downed host Marywood University 3-0 in non-conference field hockey action Thursday afternoon in Scranton.  Scranton improves to 1-0 while Marywood is 0-1.

Scranton's Alyssa Fania broke open a scoreless game just over twenty minutes into the contest off a corner from Laura Megargel.  The Royals would take a 1-0 lead into halftime thank in part to six first half saves from Marywood goalkeeper Jamie Bowman and one defensive save from a Pacers defender.

Bowman would make four more stops in the second half for a game-high 10 saves, while the Pacers' defense added three more defensive saves.  Despite a strong defensive effort, Scranton would tally two more goals, one of which came off a penalty stroke with just under two minutes remaining.

Morgan Walsh and Briana Bacchetta each had two defensive saves for the Pacers on the day.  Scranton outshot Marywood 19-4 on the afternoon and had a 20-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Marywood returns to action Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm when they host Moravian College.
