Scranton, PA – Josh Bausch's first goal in a Marywood uniform in the 16th minute of play on Wednesday evening stood to be the game-winner as the Pacers defeated Moravian College in non-conference men's soccer action. Marywood notched their second-straight victory to improve to 2-1 on the season while the Greyhounds remain winless in four contests.
A nifty passing play led to the Pacers goal as Brett Megee played a thru-ball behind Moravian's backline that Brandon Ritter ran onto and dribbled around goalkeeper Mike Brand. With his touch leading him the end-line, Ritter served a perfect left-footed cross that Bausch headed home from close range to give Marywood the early lead. The Pacers outshot the Greyhounds 7-3 in the opening half to hold the 1-0 lead at the break.
The Pacers had several opportunities to extend their lead in the second half. Christian Lawlor's header off a corner kick from Ryan Jones was cleared off the goal-line by a Greyhound defender and moments later, Megee blasted a 16-yard shot that rattled of the goalpost.
Moravian nearly tied the contest in the waning seconds, but Nick Desiderio's bending shot off a free kick sailed just wide to preserve the win for the Pacers.
Goalkeeper Jared El Gayeh made three saves to earn his first shutout of the season while Brand finished the night with five saves.
Marywood opens Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Saturday when they host Philadelphia Biblical University in a game scheduled to kickoff at 3:30 p.m. in Scranton.
