Box Score
Scranton, PA – Marywood University's men's soccer team scored a goal in each half and goalkeeper Jared El Gayeh recorded his third shutout of the season to lead the Pacers to a 2-0 victory over Keystone College in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Tuesday afternoon. Marywood improves to 5-2 on the season with the win and 3-1 in conference play while the Giants' record falls to 1-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the CSAC.
Both teams had several dangerous chances in the early going. Less than 20 seconds into the game, Marywood forward Christian Lawlor fired a 20-yard shot that forced Keystone goalkeeper Dany O'Rourke to make a nice diving stop. At the other end, a header off of a Giants' corner kick was headed off the goal line by a Marywood defender to keep the game scoreless.
The Pacers would break through first, however, in the 39th minute of play. Shane Quinn played a ball to midfielder Brandon Ritter. The junior midfielder beat his first defender to go into the box, then beat a second defender while cutting into the middle of the Keystone penalty area before ripping home a shot from nine yards for his third goal in the last two games.
Holding onto the 1-0 lead through much of the second half thanks to several nice saves by El Gayeh, Marywood was able to ice the win when Lawlor headed home a corner kick off the foot off Ryan Jones in the 86th minute.
Both teams recorded 15 shots on the afternoon while Keystone held a slim 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
El Gayeh finished the match with seven saves to record his third clean sheet of the season. O'Rourke was solid at the other end for the Giants, making six saves while taking the loss.
Marywood returns to action on Saturday with a non-conference game against Berkeley College scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Scranton.
