Erin Dawson recorded her first shutout of the season as Marywood blanked Cedar Crest, 7-0 Marywood Blanks Cedar Crest 7-0 Field Hockey - 9/28/2011 6:27:00 PM Box Score Allentown, PA - Marywood University bested Cedar Crest College 7-0 in CSAC field hockey action Wednesday afternoon despite an attempt by Mother Nature to postpone that outcome. The Pacers, who got two goals from Kathryn Morin and a shutout from goaltender Erin Dawson, improve to 2-1 in CSAC play (2-6 overall) while Cedar Crest remains winless at 0-7 (0-1 CSAC). Marywood built their 7-0 lead in the game's first 43 minutes of play, but with just over 12 minutes remaining the skies opened up and lightning and heavy rain forced a 65 minute delay. The game was finally resumed after lightning cleared the area, though the final moments were played in heavy downpours. Morin opened the scoring for Marywood just 2:37 into the contest by converting a penalty stroke. The Pacers doubled their lead at 8:59 when Kiersten Rauch scored off a feed from Carly Bergstrom. Five minute later, Marywood went up 3-0 on an unassisted goal from Molly Westbrook, her first tally of the year. Marywood would tack on goals from Dana Sweeney (unassisted) and Amber Stevens (from Julie Dougherty) two minutes apart midway through the first half as the Pacers built a 5-0 lead at intermission. Morin would add her second goal of the game, and team-leading fifth of the season, just over four minutes into the second half. Bergstrom would add an unassisted gaol three minutes later to make it 7-0. Erin Dawson made two stops to earn her first shutout of the season in Marywood's goal while Lindsay Harrison made 21 stops for the Falcons. Marywood, who has scored 11 goals in their two wins this season, returns to action Saturday when they host Immaculata University in another CSAC tilt at 1:00 pm. Print Friendly Version
