Fillman, Zalewski Lead Volleyball to Win Over Griffins

Scranton, PA – Emily Fillman and Ashley Zalewski had eight kills apiece to lead host Marywood University to a 3-0 win over Gwynedd-Mercy College in Colonial States Athletic Conference volleyball action on Thursday evening.  The Pacers, winners of four straight matches, improve to 9-5 on the season and sport a 3-1 mark in conference play.
 
Marywood won by scores of 25-12, 25-17, and 25-13 to claim their third-consecutive three-game sweep.
 
Zalewski recorded eight kills on 19 total attacks and added two blocked shots while Fillman had eight kills on 20 total attacks to lead the Pacers.  Alyssa Hartranft led all players with 23 assists while adding six digs and two service aces.  Marywood got a match-high 11 digs from Rachel Tollett who also had three service aces.
 
The Pacers' Mackenzie Goodwin led all players with four service aces and contributed six digs, as did Ashley CavellierKathleen Reilly finished tied with Zalewski for a match-best two blocked shots.
 
The Griffins, now 4-9 on the season and 1-3 in the CSAC, were paced by Aileen Reilly's match-high 11 kills while Caitlin Westerfer led the squad with 15 assists.  Stephanie Farrar led Gwynedd-Mercy with nine digs in the loss. 
 
Marywood is back in action tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m. when they take on Frostburg State University in the first day of the Franklin and Marshall Tournament in Lancaster, PA.
