Box Score

Bridgewater, VA - Bridgewater College scored twice within 18 minutes, including one goal that came less than two minutes after a Marywood equalizer, and the host Eagles held on for a 2-1 win over the Pacers in both team's season openers this afternoon in Virginia.  Erin Jones tallied the lone Marywood goal.

After a scoreless first half was controlled mostly by the hosts, Marywood picked up the offense in the second half only to have Bridgewater strike first.  Helen Feeser took a slotted drop pass from Mari Marotta and beat Marywood freshman keeper Emily Osborne to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

Marywood nearly tied it a few minutes later but Caitlin Light's attempt from 12-yards out was flicked over the bar to safety by Eagle goalie Mackenzie Gates.

Jones would find the equalizer for Marywood sixteen minutes later as she finished an Alixandria Fiore cross to tie the game.  That lead would be short lived, however, as the hosts took advantage of an errant clearance in the middle of the field.  Anna Theisen picked off a pass and found Melanie Waters for the game-winning tally.

The hosts out-shot Marywood 12-10 on the day despite and equal (8-8) amount of chances for both teams in the second half.  Marywood held a slight 5-3 advantage in corners.

Bridgewater will play Marymount (1-0) tomorrow in the second day of the Bridgewater Invitational at 4:00 pm while Marywood will play Ferrum (0-1) in the opening game at 2:00 pm.
