Scranton, PA -  Christine Marks scored a career-high 36 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to lead Misericordia University to a 74-57 victory over Marywood University in non-conference women's basketball action on Monday evening.  The Cougars improve to 9-7 on the season while the Pacers suffer their first defeat at home and slip to 12-5 overall.
 
Misericordia scored the first six points of Monday night's contest before Marywood netted the next five points to cut their deficit to 6-5 with 16:49 to play, but the Cougars would hold the lead throughout first half, stretching it to as many as nine points.  A layup by Kimberly Martin followed by a Morgann Haduck three-pointer brought the Pacers cut the visitors lead to 24-20, but Misericordia went into the locker room with a 28-22 advantage. 
 
Marks, Misericordia's all-time leading scorer, was dominant inside in the first 20 minutes, scoring 16 points on 7-13 shooting.  Misericordia shot 47.8 percent from the field in the first half, while the Pacers shot 37.5 percent from the floor.  Marywood's offense was balanced in the first period, as eight Pacers recorded points, led by five from Mariah Schaeffer.
 
Haduck hit another three-pointer to start the second half and brought Marywood to within three points at 28-25, but Misericordia rattled off nine unanswered points to hold a 37-25 lead with 17:02 to play.  The Pacers battled back to within four points on a Carly Leitzel layup with 11:24 remaining, but the Cougars outscored the hosts 10-4 over the next four minutes to take a 49-38 advantage.  Haduck's third trey of the game with 4:53 remaining brought Marywood to within nine points at 55-46, but Misericordia put the game out of reach with an 11-0 run over the next two and a half minutes.
 
Marks' career night came on a 13-26 shooting effort from the floor and a 10-11 effort from the free throw line.  The senior, who became Misericordia's all-time rebounding leader, added 17 more to her total to complete the double-double as the Cougars held a 40-32 advantage on the glass.  Hannah Seely also finished with a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Jesse Robinson was the third Cougar in double-figures with 10 points.  Misericordia finished the evening connecting on 48.1 percent of their shots from the floor and a solid, 82.1 percent from the free throw line.
 
11 different players scored for Marywood on Monday night, led by Leitzel's 10 points.  The sophomore guard was three of five from the field and hit all four of her free throw attempts.  Schaeffer and Haduck each finished the contest with nine points while Leitzel and Marielle Thorsen tied for the team lead with six rebounds apiece.  The Pacers shot 35.8 percent from the floor and struggled from the free throw line, hitting just 11 of 24 attempts from the stripe.
 
Marywood will be back in action on Wednesday night at Rosemont College for a Colonial States Athletic Conference contest scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. in Rosemont.
