Marywood Remains Unbeaten in CSAC Play With Win Over Gators

Scranton, PA – Allison Bruet scored a game-high 20 points while Carly Leitzel added 17 points to lead Marywood University to a 79-37 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference women's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon. The Pacers improve to 9-3 overall on the season and 4-0 in conference play with the win while the Gators remain winless in 10 games (0-6 CSAC).
 
Marywood scored the first 10 points of Saturday afternoon's contest and built a 27-5 lead with 12:14 to play.  The Pacers extended their advantage to 29 points at 36-7 with 5:07 showing on the clock, and the team held a 44-17 lead at halftime after connecting on 48.6 percent of their shots from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
 
Bruet led all players with 16 points in the first half after converting on eight of 15 field goal attempts for the Pacers.  Marielle Thorsen added 10 first half points while Leitzel scored seven points.  Notre Dame was paced by Niccole Brown's nine points in the opening stanza.
 
Marywood scored the first six points of the second half before using a 14-2 run midway through the period to extend their advantage to 40 points at 68-28.  The Gators narrowed their deficit to 71-35 with just over four minutes to play, but that was as close as the visitors would come with the Pacers well in control of the contest.
 
Bruet ended the afternoon with game-highs of 20 points, five steals, and four assists.  The senior guard also tied for the Marywood lead with six rebounds.  Leitzel finished with 17 points and also corralled six boards while Thorsen was the third Pacer to finish in double-figures with 12 points.
 
Marywood, who turned the ball over just eight times while forcing Notre Dame into 31 giveaways, shot 44.4 percent from the floor for the game, 26.3 percent from three-point range, and 58.8 percent from the free throw line.
 
Brown's 13 points led Notre Dame, who got eight points from Sasha Vassel and eight from Julicel Crisostomo.  Vassel grabbed a game-high nine rebounds and Imani Stokes finished with eight boards as the Gators held a 43-41 edge on the glass for the game. 
 
Marywood will next take on CSAC North rival Baptist Bible College on Monday in a game scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. in Clarks Summit.
