Marywood Evens CSAC Mark with 2-0 Win at Immaculata

Immaculata, PA - Julie Kowalski netter her team-leading fourth goal of the season and Kathryn Morin scored a second half insurance goal as visiting Marywood University earned a key 2-0 win over host Immaculata University in Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon just outside Philadelphia.  Marywood evened their CSAC record to 2-2 (2-8 overall) with the win while the Mighty Macs slipped to 1-11, 1-3 CSAC.

The Pacers got on the board at the 12 minute mark as Kowalski scored unassisted on a shot from the top of the circle after a run through the midfield.  The score would remain 1-0 for the remainder of the first half.  Immaculata out-shot the Pacers 6-5 in the opening stanza but Marywood's Natalie Winters turned away the only shot on goal in the first half.

Despite holding a 17-9 advantage in shots in the second half, Immaculata could not find the equalizer and Marywood got an insurance goal from Morin in the 48th minute of play.  Morin knocked in a loose ball off a penalty corner to make it 2-0 Marywood. 

From there, it was Winters and the Pacers' defense that kept the victory in had.  Winters made seven second half saves, giving her eight in the game, to preserve the shutout.  For the afternoon, Marywood was out-shot 23-14 and Immaculata had a 17-10 advantage in penalty corners.  Winters made eight stops while Immaculata's Danielle Lopez made seven.

Marywood returns to action Monday when they host Neumann University at 1:00pm.
