Scranton, PA - Battling cold conditions and a fellow unbeaten foe in the CSAC, Marywood University came up on the short end of a tight match as the Pacers fell 6-3 to Gwynedd-Mercy College in women's tennis action Saturday afternoon in Scranton.  With the win, GMC (12-1, 10-0 CSAC) secured the top seed in next weekend's CSAC Championships while Marywood (9-3, 9-1 CSAC) will be the #2 seed.  Marywood's three points against the Griffins marked the first time all season GMC has allowed points against a CSAC foe after they won all their previous league matches by a score of 9-0.

All doubles matches were tight to open play, as GMC's Rachel Fein and Gabby Muller edged Marywood's Kara Hoff and Megan Nastelli 8-6 at #1 doubles to start play.  Marywood's Melissa Hudock and Carly Leitzel held a 7-2 lead at #2 doubles before Chelsea Jones and Caroline Lockwood rallied for a 9-8 (7-5) win for Gwynedd.  At #3 doubles, another tight match resulted in a 9-8 (8-6) win for GMC's Kellie Booth and Zachara Harley over Marywood's duo of Lauren Fersch and Emily Hoskins.

In singles play, Fein had little trouble with Hoff at #1 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0.  Marywood's Leitzel, returning from a hamstring injury that hampered her much of the season, earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at #2 singles to get the Pacers on the board.

At #3 singles, Muller defeated Hudock 6-3, 6-4 and at #4 singles Jones downed Nastelli 6-4, 2-6, 11-9.  Marywood won both their matches at #5 and #6 singles as Hoskins beat Harley 6-2, 6-3 at #5 and Kristen Lambert was a 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 winner over Booth at #6 singles.

In the CSAC semifinals on Friday, October 19, GMC will take on Keystone College (6-6), who squeezed into the #4 seed with a win over Cabrini College today.  Following that match, Marywood will take on #3 Neumann University (9-6).  The Pacers downed the Knights 7-2 in the second match of the regular season on September 9.  The CSAC Championships conclude Saturday.  All matches are played at the Northwood Racquet Club in Easton.
