Box Score

Scranton, PA - Marywood University got first half goals from Julie Kowalski and Kathryn Morin and the Pacers' defense did not allow a shot in the second half as the host Pacers kept their playoff hopes alive with a 2-1 win over visiting Neumann University Monday afternoon in Scranton.  Marywood (3-8, 3-2 CSAC) responded from an early 1-0 deficit with goals 16 minutes apart to drop the Knights, who fell to 2-11, 2-3 CSAC with the loss.

Neumann's Chelsa O'Donnell opened the scoring with an unassisted tally in the 13th minute of play.  After a penalty corner, a scramble in front of Marywood's net had Pacers' goaltender Natalie Winters clear the ball away, only to find the stick of O'Donnell who slotted it to the far post for the game's first goal.

Marywood responded just under five minutes later when Kowalski scored off a feed from Carly Bergstrom to find the equalizer.  Kowalski's goal was her team-leading fifth of the season.  Just under 16 minutes later the Pacers went ahead 2-1 when Kathryn Morin scored unassisted.  Morin's tally would prove to be the game-winner, as the Pacers did not allow a shot in the second half.

The Pacers missed several golden opportunities to add insurance goals in the second half as several Neumann players served two or five minute penalties due to the five-yard infraction.  To the Knights' credit their defense did not bend and the Pacers got no real looks in their man-up situations.

Winters made one save in the first half while the Pacers' defense, anchored by Brianna Bacchetta, Danielle Higgins and Morgan Walsh, did only allowed two first half shots as the Pacers' out-shot Neumann 7-2 on the day.

Marywood looks to keep their modest winning streak going Wednesday night when they host Cedar Crest College in CSAC action at 7:00pm.
