Kathryn Morin scored two goals, including the game-winner, in a thrilling 3-2 overtime win against Cedar Crest Wednesday night Marywood Wins OT Thriller Against Cedar Crest to Clinch Playoff Spot Field Hockey - 10/17/2012 10:12:00 PM Box Score Scranton, PA - Marywood University's Kathryn Morin had two goal, including the game-winner 5:34 into overtime, to lift the host Pacers to a thrilling 3-2 win over visiting Cedar Crest College Wednesday evening in CSAC field hockey action. Marywood (4-8, 4-2 CSAC) built an early 2-0 lead only to see the Falcons (6-10, 2-4 CSAC) come back to force extra time. The Pacers also got a goal from Sarah Hindman while Cedar Crest got both their goals from Emily Rodenberger. Marywood's win clinches the Pacers a berth into the CSAC post-season tournament. Morin opened the scoring on the evening in the 9th minute of play when she scored unassisted to give the host Pacers a 1-0 lead. Marywood would double that advantage in the 21st minute of play when Hindman found the back of the cage off a feed from Julie Kowalski. Cedar Crest would not go quietly, however, as the visitors responded with their first goal from Rodenberger at the 27:02 mark of the first half. Rodenberger took advantage of a scramble after a Falcons' penalty corner to beat Marywood keeper Natalie Winters and cut their deficit in half. Nearly fifteen minutes into the second half, Rodenberger leveled the game at 2-2 when she put home a feed from teammate Jessica Sanbeg. The game would remain tied for the remainder of regulation, setting up Morin's heroics in overtime. After Morin missed an open-net opportunity just over two minutes into the extra period, the Pacers countered a attack from Cedar Crest by stealing a pass inside their defensive half. Hindman dribbled the ball past midline with an attacker on each side of her, slotting Morin just past midfield and the lone Falcons' defender just past midline. Morin took the feed, picked up speed with a run straight at goal, and used a nifty juke move past charging Cedar Crest goalkeeper Lindsay Harrison before putting the ball into an open net for the win. Marywood out-shot Cedar Crest 19-14 for the night while the Falcons had a 12-11 advantage in shots on frame and a 13-7 advantage in penalty corners. Each goaltender made eight stops in the game. The Pacers return to the field Saturday at 12:00 noon when they host CSAC foe Gwynedd-Mercy College. Print Friendly Version
