Second Half Surge Lifts Arcadia Over Marywood

Scranton, PA - Visiting Arcadia University scored with just :04 remaining in the first half to break a 0-0 deadlock then added four second half goals, two on penalty strokes, as the Knights downed host Marywood University 5-0 in non-conference field hockey action Monday evening in Scranton. The win lifts Arcadia to 13-5 on the year while Marywood fell to 4-10 with the loss.  The Pacers got 13 saves from Natalie Winters on the evening.

Winters played a strong first half in goal for the Pacers, keeping the Knights at bay until late in the period when the visitors finally broke through on a goal from Jennie Kamel with just seconds remaining in the first period.  Arcadia out-shot Marywood 16-1 in the first half and put 12 attempts on goal, but only finding the back of the net after Marilyn Beatty slid a ball behind Winters for Kamel to put home.

The second half proved to be much different as the Knights capitalized on more of their opportunities.  Pam Schweitzer put home a penalty stroke just over seven minutes into the half to double the visitor's lead, and Beatty and Kamel connected again in the 54th minute as Arcadia went up 3-0.  The Knights' Taylor Dalisera put home another penalty stroke just 33 seconds later and Kamel completed a hat-trick 50 seconds later as the Knights scored their third goal in 2:40 to make it 5-0.

Winters made 13 stops on the night in 55:13 of action while Erin Dawson made two stops in 14:47 of play.  Mia DePlato (61:22) and Sarah Baumgardner (8:38) combined for a clean slate for Arcadia.

Marywood returns to action Thursday with their final regular season game before the CSAC playoffs, where they will be the #4 seed.  Marywood takes on Misericordia University at 4:00pm in Dallas.
