King's Bests Marywood in Women's Swimming Action

Wilkes-Barre, PA - King's College took control early and never looked back as the Monarchs downed Marywood University 153-108 in non-conference women's swimming and diving action Friday evening in Wilkes-Barre.  Marywood's Katie Paterson won the 1000 free, 500 free and 200 free while Valerie Barlow won the 50 free.  Marywood fell to 1-3 on the year with the loss while King's improved to 1-0.

The Lady Monarchs got off the blocks fast scoring a first place finish in the opening event the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:59.82.  Paterson responded for the Pacers with a victory in the 1000 free in a time of 11:18.75, then won the 200 free in 2:05.59.  Interestingly, Paterson's time of 11:18.75 in the 1000 would have placed her in 2nd place in the men's 1000 race.  Olivia Hower finished second in the 50 free for the Pacers, less than a second behind race winner Erin McLin of King's.  In the 50 backstroke, freshman Kim Petersen finished second in a time of 34.19 while Amber Sharkey finished third in the 100 butterfly with a 1:06.88.

Barlow finished first in the 50 free in a time of 26.96 before finishing second in the 100 free (1:01.43).  Hower also had a second place finish in the 100 backstroke with a finsihing time of 1:10.63 while Petersen finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.43).  Paterson's time of 5:45.31 in the 500 free was 15 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.  Alyssa Desiderio finished third with a time of 6:13.80.

Peterson finished out the night with her third consecutive second place showing, touching in 2:27.62 in the 200 IM. 

Marywood returns to action on Halloween as the Pacers travel to Misericordia University for a 6:00pm non-conference meet.
