Scranton, PA - Marywood University closed out the 2012 CSAC regular season with a 3-1 win over Gwynedd-Mercy College Saturday afternoon in Scranton.  The Griffins jumped out to an early 1-0 lead but Marywood responded with three unanswered goals to finish the regular season with an unbeaten 10-0-1 CSAC record.  GMC fell to 9-8-2 (6-3-2 CSAC) with the loss.

Christine Michalski got the Griffins on the board just 9:59 into the game on an unassisted tally.  After a throw in, a cross into the box skirted through several defenders and after a failed clear from Marywood's defense Michalski was there to put the ball away.

Marywood (10-7-1 overall) responded exactly four minutes later when Siobhan Blancaflor took a ball down the left wing, beat a defender then blasted a shot from 12 yards out on a hard angle past Griffin net-minder Jess Tadley to level the game at 1-1.

The Pacers wasted little time in taking the lead as Emma Nye scored the eventual game-winner at the 16:03 mark. Blancaflor started the play with another strong run down the left-flank, then found a streaking Jessica Cosentino who layed the ball off beautifully to Nye, who slotted Tadley from six yards out.  Both Cosentino and Blancaflor picked up assists on the play.

Blancaflor closed the scoring 8:01 into the second half when she shouldered in a long ball from Paige Madary.  Madary stepped up in the center of the defense at midfield and sent a perfectly played long-ball into the 18 where Blancaflor just got enough to put the ball over a charging Tadley.

Marywood held a 16-6 advantage in shots for the game.  Tadley had four saves in the loss while Marywood's Emily Osborne and Victoria Pezdirtz each played 45 minutes in goal with one save apiece.

Marywood heads into next Wednesday's CSAC semifinal as the top seed and riding a seven-game winning streak.  Marywood will host the lowest remaining seed after Monday's first-round game at a time to be determined.
