Griffins End Marywood's Season in CSAC Semifinals

Gwynedd Valley, PA - Top seed and host Gwynedd-Mercy College advanced to Saturday's Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship field hockey game with a 9-2 win over four seed Marywood University Thursday evening outside of Philadelphia.  The Griffins (14-5) got three goals from both Sarah Jackson and Maria Karidas in the win while Marywood, who closes their season at 4-12, got goals from Kathryn Morin and Julie Kowalski.

GMC's Jackson opened the scoring at the 6:25 mark with a shot off a rebound and Erin Gorenflow doubled the host's lead just a little over a minute later by scoring on a deflection in front of the goal.  The Griffins went up 3-0 just under 10 minutes later with Karidas' first goal of the game in the 17th minute, and seven mintues later Karidas scored again to make it 4-0. 

Just :49 into the second half the Griffins went up 5-0 before Morin made it 5-1 with a goal in the crease off a feed from Sarah Hindman.  After another goal from Jackson, Kowalski made it 6-2 with a unassisted goal. The Griffins scored three times in the final four minutes to make it 9-2.

Marywood's Natalie Winters made eight stops in goal in 55:48 of action while Erin Dawson made two stops in the final 14:12.  Kelly Kruck allowed two goals for GMC while making two stops.
