Erie, PA - A foul call just outside of Marywood University's 18-yard box with 3:17 left in the second overtime period allowed #5 Alvernia College to defeat #7 Marywood 2-1 for the 2012 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Championship Sunday afternoon at Penn State-Behrend in Erie.  Marywood closes their historic season with 12-7-3 mark and the Runner-Up trophy while Alvernia moved to 14-7-3 with the Championship game win.

The Crusaders opened the scoring in the 29th minute of play when Joe Gingrich took a feed from Kyle Martyn and ripped a shot from deep outside the 18-yard box past Marywood's Shane Quinn for the game's first goal.  Alvernia would take that lead into halftime and would hold a slim 5-4 advantage in shots in the opening frame.

Marywood seemed to forget about their tired legs in the second half and the Pacers continued to generate scoring chances.  In the 59th minute, Marywood earned a corner kick and found the equilizer.  It looked as if Marywood would tie the game immediately off the corner kick as Christian Lawlor re-directed the ball with his head, but Lawlor's effort, despite beating the defenders and Crusader keeper, could not beat the crossbar.  Fortunately for the Pacers, Lawlor's header came back into the field of play, where Zachary Oster was waiting and ripped a one-time shot into the back of the net to make it 1-1.

The game would remain 1-1 throughout the rest of regulation and through the first overtime period.  Looking as if the game would be decided by penalty kicks after time expired, Alvernia took advantage of a questionable foul call against Marywood's Ryan Jones just outside the Pacers' defensive 18 yard box.  Martyn made sure there would be no penalty kicks as he placed a nicely struck ball past the wall and Quinn for the golden goal.

Alvernia held a slight 13-11 advantage in shots for the game while Marywood held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.  Quinn made a game-high five saves in his final collegiate game while Alvernia's Ben Diller made two stops in the win.
