Marymount Tops Marywood in Laurel Line Opener, 80-69

Dallas, PA - Antonio Rouse led five Marymount University players in double figures with 20 points as the Saints beat Marywood University 80-69 in the opening game of the Laurel Line Tournament at Misericordia University in Dallas Friday evening.  All five Saints players in double figures came off the bench as Marymount (1-0) out-scored the Pacers 50-39 in the second half to break open a game that was deadlocked 30-30 at halftime.  Ryan Corrigan led Marywood (0-1) with a game-high 22 points.  Marywood will take on Baptist Bible College in Saturday's consolation game at 6:00pm.  The Defenders fell to host Misericordia 78-60 in Friday's second game.

The Pacers and the Saints battled back and forth over the opening half and eventually would go into the locker room deadlocked at 30-30.  Marymount hit 13 of 29 attempts (44.8%) of their attempts from the field in the opening half while Marywood shot well also, connecting on 40.6% of their attempts (13 of 32).  The Pacers, however, went 2-for-7 from long range in the opening stanza and would remain cold their all night, only connecting on two of 11 attempts from three-point range in the second half for a total of just 22.8% shooting from behind the arc on the evening.

Marymount, meanwhile, only connected on two three's all night but picked up their offensive performance from inside in the second half, connecting on 56.3% of their second half shots while picking up the defensive effort and limiting the Pacers to 37.1% shooting in the half.

Corrigan's 22 points came on 7 of 16 shooting from the floor (2 of 5 from three-point range) and six of six shooting from the charity stripe.  Shane Kellaher joined Corrigan as the only other Pacers to reach double digits after a 17 point performance.
