Scranton, PA - Marywood University opened Thursday nights CSAC opener against Centenary College on a 15-0 run but the Pacers could not hold off the Cyclones or star forward Andy Charles as Centenary pulled out a 61-58 win over the Pacers at the Insalaco Arena.  Charles had another outstanding performance, this team leading the Cyclones with game highs of 25 points and 20 boards, as Centenaary improved to 3-2 (1-0 CSAC) with the three-point win.

Marywood (1-4, 0-1 CSAC) opened the game on a 15-0 run over the opening 5:24 which included three treys, but Centenary used a 12-2 run of their own over the next 5:59 to get back to within five.  From there, Marywood would go back up by as many as 14 over the remainder of the first half but could never really put the Cyclones away.

Centenary eventually got back to within four with one minute left in the opening half on a three from Max Hughes and the Pacers would use a pair of free throws from Shane Kellaher to go into intermission with a six-point, 34-28 lead.  Marywood shot 39.4% from the floor in the opening half which included a 4 of 12 effort from long range.  Centenary, meanwhile, only managed 27.6% shooting in the opening stanza and was just 2 of 9 from three-point range.

In a tail of two halves, Centenary got hot in the second half (45.5% shooting) while Marywood went cold (29% shooting).  Over the opening 5:34 of the second, Centenary slowly chipped away at the Marywood lead and found themselves down just two, 37-35, on a three from Djovan Beausejour.  The Pacer went back up eight with a quick 6-0 run, but again could not put the Cyclones away.

Eventually, with 5:19 left, Centenary tied the game at 48-48 on a layup by Charles and then took their first lead of the game at the 4:35 mark on a jumper from Gabe Cheavers.    From there, the Cyclones never relinquished the lead, keeping Marywood at bay by sinking free throws.

For the game, Charles led all scorers and rebounders with his 25 point, 20 rebound night.  Clayton Roker added 12 points for the Cyclones.  Marywood was led by Ryan Corrigan who had 23 points of nine of 19 shooting. Corrigan also led Marywood with nine rebounds.  Shane Kellaher added 14.

Marywood will look to get back on the winning side of things on Monday when they host Gwynedd-Mercy College at 7:00pm.
