Baltimore, MD - Marywood University faced the toughest competition of their young program history Friday afternoon as both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams went winless at the Thomas Murphy Invitational, hosted by Loyola University Maryland.  The men's team fell to Johns Hopkins University and to Division I Loyola 87-20 while the women's squad fell to Hopkins and two Division 1 schools in Loyola and St. Francis.  Marywood's men's team did manage to set five school records and the women's squad set two over the weekend.

Anthony Pisano set a new Marywood mark with a time of 22.30 in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing in seventh place overall but less than a second off the winning time of 21.42.  Jason Beabout set two new school marks, the first coming in the 500 yard freestyle (4:55.82, 6th place)) and the second in the opening leg of the 800 free relay (1:49.39 split in the 200).  The rest of Marywood's 800 free relay team of Andy Blevins, Pisano and Zachary Haney made good on Beabout's fast start by setting a new school mark as a relay team with a time of 7:33.25.  Haney also finished 8th in the 500 free with a time of 5:01.39.

In diving action, Marywood's Heather Wimmer and Katy Alexander had strong performances with a 167.33 and 141.15 on the 1-meter board, respectively, while Paul Dwyer dove for the men and scored a 130.73 on the 3-meter.

Katie Paterson came in 12th in the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 5:23.53, just 16 seconds behind Haley Fournier from Division I St. Francis (PA).  Kim Petersen finished in 2:24.99 in the 200 yard IM where Taylor Kitayama of Johns Hopkins finished first with a time of 2:09.55.  Kayleigh Vellott swam well in the 50 yard free, touching in 26.89, just over two seconds behind race winner Danyel Johnson of St. Francis (24.42).

On Saturday, Paterson broke Marywood's school record in the 200 backstroke while Petersen set a new mark in the 200 breastroke.  On the men's side, Beabout established a new best time for a Marywood swimmer in the 1650.

Beabout finished fifth in at time of 17:19.83 while Paterson's time of 2:21.89 placed her 14th overall.  Petersen finished 12th in a time of 2:41.23.

In diving, Wimmer (167.33) and Alexander (141.15) third and fourth, respectively, in 3-meter diving while Dwyer finished third in men's 1-meter diving with a score of 130.73.
