Women's Basketball Hands Cougars First Loss

Dallas, PA – Brittany Mang scored a season-high 24 points to lead Marywood University women's basketball to a 67-57 victory Monday over Misericordia. The Pacers' second-consecutive win provides the Cougars their first loss of the season.
 
Marywood (3-3 overall) jumped out to a 24-7 advantage in the first 11:09 to put Misericordia in an early hole. The Cougars (5-1 overall) never shared a piece of the lead throughout the game.
 
Lindsey Schroth made 5-of-9 shots to join Mang in double digits with 12 points.
 
Rebounding gave the Pacers a significant advantage over the Cougars. As a team, Marywood out-rebounded Misericordia by a 51-30 margin – a difference of 21 boards. Maggie Presnal led the game with 11 boards, including five offensive rebounds. Carly Leitzel snagged eight rebounds, and Ashley Murray and Schroth chipped in with seven.
 
Marywood made 44.2 percent of its shots (23-of-52) from the floor. The Pacers' defense held the Cougars to an 18-of-60 (30 percent) performance.
 
Mang's performance marks her fifth consecutive game in double digits. The Carbondale native also contributed with five assists, four steals and five rebounds. She made 12-of-18 shots from the charity stripe.
 
The Pacers held the Cougars to just six field goals in the first half.
 
In the early going, Marywood went on two nine-point runs that led to a 15-3 stretch, capped by a Schroth bucket off a Mang steal.
 
The Pacers led by as many as 18 points in the second half before Misericordia began chipping away. Misericordia went on a 17-6 run to close the gap to seven points with 8:28 remaining.
 
Ahead by six points in a two-possession game, Schroth grabbed a key offensive board with 1:14 remaining that forced Misericordia to foul. Marywood's six offensive rebounds in the final three minutes enabled Mang to close the game from the free-throw line.
 
Marywood shot 47.8 percent during the second half.
 
The Pacer women welcome Baptist Bible to Scranton Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Pacers' CSAC opener.
