Scranton, PA – Visiting Baptist Bible College spoiled Marywood University's men's basketball senior day with a 59-49 upset win over the Pacers.  The Defenders, who limited Marywood to just 2 of 23 shooting from three-point range, improved to 3-20 (3-13 CSAC) on the year and got a game-high 18 points from Luke Peterson.  Marywood will likely need help to secure the last playoff spot after slipping to 8-15, 7-9 CSAC.

Baptist Bible raced out to a 17-point halftime lead (35-18) thanks to hot shooting of their own (68%) and cold shooting for the Pacers (26%).  Marywood did not help itself by going 0-for-11 from long-range in the opening stanza, while the visitors limited their outside attempts (3 of 6) but were sharp inside the arc (13 of 19).

With the score 11-10 in favor of BBC with 14 minutes left in the opening half, the visitors went on a key 16-2 run over the next nine minutes of play to break open the game.  The defenders would hold a double-digit lead the rest of the half and would go up by as many as 19 (37-18) to start the second half.

Marywood slowly chipped away at the Defenders' lead despite remaining cold from long-range.  A layup by Pierre Bakinde got the Pacers back to within nine at the 13 minute mark, and eventually Marywood cut the BBC lead to just five on a layup by James Lavan.  BBC would use a quick 9-0 run though to rebuild a 14-point cushion (51-37) and that run seemed to be the crushing blow to Marywood's hopes of a comeback.

But the Pacers remained in contention, again slowly cutting into the lead by forcing four consecutive turnovers against the visitors.  Doing so gave the Pacers a 10-0 run and allowed the hosts to get to within four (51-47), but with under 1:30 to play Marywood was forced to foul to stop the clock.  The Defenders went 8-for-8 from the charity stripe in the final 1:17 to seal the win.

Peterson's game-high 18 came on 5 of 9 shooting from the floor and a 5-for-5 effort from the line.  Jordan Grave had 15 for the Defenders while Dan Dodd completed a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards, which tied him for a game-high.

Marywood's Bakinde matched that game-high with 10 rebounds and added 12 points for a double-double of his own while Brent Keyes was the only other Pacers to reach double digits with a team-high 14 points.

Prior to tip-off Marywood honored its four seniors.  The Pacers recoginzed James Lavan, Kirk Fallon, Brent Keyes and Matt Lepri.

Marywood must now win their last two league games in order to have a shot at the sixth and final playoff seed.  The Pacers will start the quest Monday night when they host Immaculata University at 8:00 pm.
