Pacers Secure Fourth Seed With Win Over Centenary

Scranton, PA – Allison Bruet scored a game-high 17 points to lead Marywood University to a 67-52 victory over Centenary College in Wednesday night's regular season finale for both teams.  The Pacers improve to 17-8 on the season with the win and locked up the fourth seed in the upcoming Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs with a 12-4 record in league play.  Marywood will host Cabrini College on Monday evening in a first round CSAC playoff game.
 
Marywood built a 13-8 lead just over seven minutes into Wednesday night's game, but Centenary rallied with an 8-2 run to lead 16-15 at the 9:39 mark.  Marra Butler knocked down a three-pointer to start 9-3 spurt for the Pacers over the next seven minutes and Marywood would hold a31-24 lead at halftime.
 
Carly Leitzel led all players with eight points and grabbed five rebounds, tied with Maggie Presnal for a first-half high.  The Pacers shot 36.4 percent from the floor in the opening half and went 4-8 from three-point range.  The Cyclones hit on 30.4 percent of their attempts from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play.
 
Marywood stretched their lead to as many as 12 points in the beginning of the second half, but Centenary used a 7-1 run to narrow their deficit to 47-43 with 7:34 remaining.  However, that was as close as the Cyclones would come in the second half, as the Pacers scored the final nine points of the contest.
 
Bruet finished with a game-high 17 points with just one field while going 15-21 from the free throw line.  The senior guard, who now sits just one point shy of 1,000 for her career, also grabbed 10 rebounds to record Marywood's first double-double of the season.  Leitzel and Maddie Lavery each added 10 points for the Pacers who got 10 boards from Marielle Thorsen as the hosts held a 49-38 advantage on the glass.  Thorsen also recorded game-highs of seven steals and five assists for Marywood.
 
The Cyclones, who close the 2011-2012 regular season with a 14-11 record (7-9 CSAC), were paced by Danielle Trucksess' 14 points and nine rebounds. 
 
Marywood will host fifth-seeded Cabrini on Monday evening in the Insalaco Arena in the first round of the CSAC playoffs at 7:00 p.m.
