Pacers Suffer First Setback in 10-9 Loss to LVC

Scranton, PA – Lebanon Valley College scored the game-winning goal with just 29 seconds left in regulation to deal Marywood University their first loss on Saturday as the Flying Dutchmen pulled out a 10-9 victory in non-conference women's lacrosse action.  The Flying Dutchmen improve to 2-1 on the season while the Pacers will take a 3-1 record into Tuesday night's conference-opener at Gwynedd-Mercy College.
 
Kimberly Commisso gave Marywood a 1-0 lead at the 22:28 mark of the first half off a Kathy DiGiacomo assist, but Lebanon Valley responded with the game's next four goals to lead 4-1 with 4:47 to play in the opening half.  Sarah Caughy scored unassisted with 3:26 left on the clock to cut the Pacers' deficit to 4-2, but Hana Krechel's third goal of the game with 49 seconds left in the first half gave the Flying Dutchmen a 5-2 lead heading into halftime.
 
Marywood came out of the break flying, scoring the first six goals of the second half to claim an 8-5 lead 21:29 remaining.  Diana D'Achille scored four goals during the spurt while Taylor McKeown and Commisso also found the net in the run and Caughy assisted on three of the goals. 
 
Lebanon Valley countered with four straight goals of their own and took a 9-8 lead with 8:02 to play when Krechel scored her fifth goal of the game on a free position shot.  McKeown knotted the game back up at the 5:47 mark with an unassisted goal, but Krechel set up Bailey Benz who scored from close range with just 29 seconds to play to put the visitors up 10-9.  The Pacers won the ensuing draw, but were unable to find the equalizer as time ran out.
 
Krechel led all players with seven points while the Flying Dutchmen got two goals apiece from Benz and Christy Wilson.  Lebanon Valley held a 33-27 edge in shots and won the groundball battle by a 33-28 margin.  Corinne Palombo made 12 saves to pick up the win in goal for Lebanon Valley.
 
D'Achille (4 goals) and Caughy (1 goal, 3 assists) each finished with four points to lead Marywood, who got two goals apiece from Commisso and McKeown.   On the defensive end, Lauren Indelicato set a single-game program record with eight caused turnovers and tied for a game-high with six groundballs. 
 
The Pacers, who held a 16-5 advantage in draw controls for the contest, were paced 11 from Commisso.  Leigha Dolcemascolo took the loss despite a solid, 16-save effort in between the pipes for Marywood.
 
The Pacers open conference play on Tuesday evening at Gwynedd-Mercy College in a rematch of last spring's Colonial States Athletic Conference championship game won by the Griffins. Opening draw is set for 7:00 p.m. in Gwynedd Valley, PA.
