Scranton, PA - Nicholas DeFebo set a new Marywood University record by fanning 17 batters as the Pacers rolled past Philadelphia Biblical University 12-2 in their Colonial States Athletic Conference opener Friday afternoon in Scranton.  DeFebo's 17 k's is one more than the old record previously set by Sam Webster, who struck out 16 versus Alvernia College on March 25, 2009.  Marywood, who also got a homer from Anthony Castellano, improved to 6-5 (1-0 CSAC) with the win while the Crimson Eagles fell to 0-9 (0-1 CSAC).

DeFebo struck out every Crimson Eagle at least once on the day and allowed just two runs on five hits.  PBU got their runs in the seventh inning when they opened with a double, got an RBI single and had a bases loaded walk result in a run.  DeFebo had a no-hitter going until that inning, eventually striking out the side, and also struck out the side in the third while striking out two batters in the first, fourth, sixth and ninth innings.

Marywood opened the game with a four-run first despite three of their runs being unearned after the first two batters both reached on errors.  PBU starter Michael Sundholm was tagged for nine runs on the afternoon, although only two were earned.  Marywood picked up another run in the fourth on a Castellano RBI single and then Castellano picked up his first career homerun with a leadoff homer in the sixth.  The Pacers also enjoyed a three-run fifth highlighted by a two-run double from Jonathan Woytach and a three-run eighth highlighted by a Mike Pinelli RBI double.

For the afternoon, Woytach and Castellano each enjoyed two-hit days while Woytach, Nicholas Pasqualichio, Castellano and Pinelli all had two RBI.

Marywood and PBU will do battle again tomorrow in a twinbill in Langhorne.  First pitch of game one is set for 12:00 pm.
