Allentown, PA - Marywood University opened their 2012 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) softball slate with a pair of close wins over Cedar Crest College Friday afternoon in Allentown.  In the opener, it took 10 innings for the Pacers to out-last the Falcons 6-5 before Marywood took the nightcap in another close game, 2-1.  Marywood improves to 4-8 (2-0 CSAC) with the wins while Cedar Crest fell to 3-7 (0-2 CSAC).

In the opener, Kaitlyn Jones got the win after going 10 full innings on the mound, allowing four earned runs on the day.  The Pacers were down 1-0 in the fourth when they plated two runs to take a 2-1 lead.  Diana Butash picked up an RBI sacrifice fly and Ashley Dommes scored on a passed ball to give the Pacers their first lead of the game.

Marywood tacked on another run in the fifth when Marywood's Kim Lope stole second and third and advanced home on a throwing error while stealing third.  But the Falcons would not go away, as they scored three times in the bottom half of the fifth to reclaim a 4-3 lead.  Marywood forced extra innings with a lone run in the top of the seventh to tie the game when Taresa Dongilli scored on a passed ball.

Jones then shut down the Falcons in the bottom of the inning, the score would remain 4-4 until the bottom of the 10th when Marywood scored twice to take a 6-4 lead.  Kellsie Davis started things for Marywood with an RBI single and Mariah Runco followed with another RBI single for the second run.  The Falcons tried to make a comeback, but only managed one run in teh bottom half of the inning as the Pacers walked away with the close win.

Runco and Dommes were each 3-for-5 in the opener.

In the 2-1 win in the nightcap, the Pacers scored once in the first and once in the third while allowing just one run in the bottom of the seventh.  Katherine King got the win with a complete-game six-hitter.  King struck out four on the afternoon to pick up the win.

In the first, Lope singled, stole second and advanced to third on a routine groundout and would then score on a Runco RBI double.  In the third, Lope tripled to start the frame and scored on a passed ball.

Cedar Crest again made things interesting when they loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh and got a run on a RBI single, but King settled down and got a pop-up and then a strikeout to end the game.

Lope finished the nightcap 3-for-4 with a triple and both runs scored.  Runco was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Marywood returns to action Saturday when they host Misericordia in a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
